Sandee Map Product Launch
The best way to plan your beach trip.
Overview
We noticed that Sandee had a much higher bounce rate than our top competitors. Despite having superior data, users preferred alternatives. We had an information organization problem.
My Role
To better organize our data, we created the Sandee Map, a geofilter that enabled users to explore by activities, amenities, etc. I was charged with reaching our first users and iterating based on the results.
Challenge
How do we deliver the Sandee Map to new audiences and convert top users to the product?
Discovery
The majority of online trip planning for digital natives takes place in Reddit threads and travel blogs.
Finding Early Adopters
I led a boots on the ground campaign, posting in Reddit and travel threads, suggesting the tool as an in-member.
I relaunched on Product Hunt to generate early adopters and accelerate Google’s indexation process.
I engaged with other launches to drive traffic to our page, resulting in Top 10 placement and PH newsletter.
Targeting Existing Users
I designed ways to embed the Sandee Map into existing pages, encouraging current users to explore the feature.
Results
The map has become the most popular feature on Sandee.com, with future iterations shipping soon.
The product launch drove traffic by 235% MoM, and organic keywords by 500%.
We organically placed 9th on PH, earning placement in their newsletter and achieving instant Google indexation.
Added map to ‘listicle’ pages for better UX viewing promoted beaches while driving users to our map.
Replaced Google Maps API with Sandee map on individual beach pages, increasing session duration.
